ABOUT THE POSITION

As a deacon in the Church of Sweden Västerås, you will carry out your diaconal mission with a solid foundation in our diaconal pastoral care. Here, diaconate has a natural place in both everyday life and larger contexts. In this role, your workplace is at Önsta Gryta Church, but you will operate over a larger area – what we internally call the northern pastoral area. Here, you will have the opportunity to step into a well-established operation and a diaconal work with great presence — while also having the space to shape and develop the work based on your experiences, interests, and the needs you see around you.

You will be a present force in people's lives – especially among the elderly, both in the church community and in nursing homes. Through conversations and visits, you create space for reflection, closeness, and human warmth. Another important part of the position is to coordinate and support our volunteer staff – you will be involved in recruiting, mentoring, and caring for those who give their time and commitment. You will also be responsible for fund management and individual conversations, where you meet people in various life situations. Based on your wishes and interests, there is also the opportunity to participate in devotions and services and cross-parish projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is an ordained deacon in the Church of Sweden. Whether you are an experienced deacon who wants to continue developing in a new context, or if you have recently been ordained and long to step into a safe and welcoming team — there is a place for you here!

The position requires that you have a driver's license and access to a car, as the work partly takes place in the area. You need to be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both spoken and written, and have basic computer skills as we work in various administrative systems and digital tools in our daily work.

You enjoy meeting others and have a natural ability to create and nurture good relationships, both with colleagues, volunteers, and congregation members. You are proactive and see what needs to be done, while also collaborating attentively and unpretentiously with others in the team and parish. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
